Good morning! Check out the following gut-friendly breakfast recipes, adapted from the New York Times Cooking website. Clicking on the recipe name will take you to the full recipe, on http://cooking.nytimes.com. I have listed the gutlove-approved ingredients with important substitutions you'll need to keep in mind. And in case you don't have time for any of the recipes below, here are some quick sunrise staples:

- Overnight oats! Raw & oh so good for you. Just fill 1/4 a mason jar with raw oats, fill halfway with almond milk or soy milk, and stuff the rest with any combo of fruits & nuts. I love strawberry coconut as well as peanut butter banana.

- Peanut butter banana toast

- Banana coffee almond milk smoothie. Checks all the boxes. Fiber? check. Protein? check. Caffeine? check.

- Avocado toast + olive oil (+/- egg). Just  smear 1/2 a ripe avocado on toast, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, and sprinkle sea salt on top!

- Acai bowl. Just make sure its unsweetened or else you're packing on the calories. Add granola, banana, coconut yogurt and feel like you're in Rio.

- Fresh herb omelet. Add a little onion & garlic to a hot pan, whisk a couple eggs with unsweetened soy or almond milk, pour in the eggs, and sprinkle on fresh herbs (dill, oregano, basil..)

- Coconut yogurt granola parfait. Use a granola that uses olive oil (no butter) and agave or maple syrup (no sugar). 

Granola With Popped Quinoa

Banana Oatmeal Almond Smoothie

  • rolled oats
  • hot or boiling water
  • unsweetened almond milk

Amaranth Porridge

  • amaranth

  • almond milk
  • maple syrup
  • salt

Bruschetta With Chard or Spinach, Poached Egg and Dukkah

  • wilted spinach or Swiss chard
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • garlic clove
  • ground pepper
  • thick slice country bread --> SPELT OR ANY OTHER GLUTEN-FREE
  • egg
  • dukkah

More-Vegetable-Than-Egg Frittata

  • olive oil
  • onion
  • salt and black pepper
  • any chopped or sliced raw or barely cooked vegetables
  • fresh basil or parsley leaves, or chopped fresh tarragon or mint leaves, or any other herb

Kasha

  • water
  • salt
  • butter --> OLIVE OIL BUTTER!
  • buckwheat groats (kasha), preferably medium-cut (cracked)
  • egg

*I like to add maple syrup & pecans!

Coconut-Banana Pancakes

  • coconut flour
  • all-purpose flour --> GLUTEN-FREE ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
  • sugar --> REMOVE IT! BANANAS WILL PROVIDE SWEETNESS
